We caught our first mongoose, killer of five chicks, stealer of eggs
IBRiY Restoration Farm
This video is a quick response to a recent mongoose attack! A mongoose has one major enemy, and it's capable of killing that enemy: a cobra!! Maybe eagles eat them? I don't know. But, they are vicious little demon looking creatures! All of the sudden, and out of the blue, we had a mongoose kill five of our nine baby chicks we got this spring. Up until that time, we had had no issues with a mongoose, except for occasionally stealing eggs. The adult hens and roosters were not harmed.
We made a homemade trap, but that didn't get the results we were looking for until much later. These traps we purchased from Tractor Supply have worked very well. We have caught, currently, seven mongooses!
The chicks have been in a new cage that is about a foot off the ground for about a month now, and they are doing well. You can check out their new home, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-kKMhuIjUo&feature=youtu.be
It's always good to become informed as to what are the evil forces that will take away what is wholesome and healthy and good, and all that hurts farm friends and farm foods.
Our farm is a work in progress for a self-sustainable, self-regenerative farm with organic permaculture/biodynamic farming practices. We also preserve two heritage breeds of cattle on our farm (Hawaii Belted Cows Restoration Farm on Facebook-- three baby calves due in August, two in February), as well as friendly honey bees. If you would like to donate to our restoration farm here, we greatly appreciate and need the help. Mahalo/thank you!! paypal.me/12tribesrestore
