MX-23 Cinnamon Just a Respin
The Independent Linux User
There are things that I need to learn, things that I need to know and things that I need to do to improve my Linux experience. So I experiment on distribution of Linux. And I do some respin of a certain distro. That is why it took me so long to make videos. Because I need to try some distro that will work with the current hardware that I am in. And that is an old NEC VersaPro VA-7 Laptop with a Core2duo and 6 gigs of ram. No virtualization involve. Just bare metal.
I have successfully migrated away from RPM based distribution of Linux. Now I am running on Debian based distro.
It is time for me to move on to a community maintained distribution of Linux such as Debian.
And also, MX-23 Linux is ready for prime time. And I got to try their community respin. And I created my own snap shot and call it; “MX-23 Cinnamon.”
I make this to look like Linux Mint with the mint themes and icon themes. It has all the applications I need to do my everyday work like editing video, writing documents, surfing the web, watching YouTube, reading emails, and checking my social media accounts.
This is just a respin from MX-23 Minimal. A respin of a respin. But it is still MX-23 Linux in it’s base. It has all the tools that MX Linux had. It also has the repository of MX Linux.
It is only the desktop environment that is different. It uses the Cinnamon Desktop. I uninstall XFCE4 and install Cinnamon. Then from there, I install those applications I need to make it my daily driver. And it is Xorg and Pipewire.
Note: This distro is not available for download. I am still trying it out. Because it is still new and based on Debian 12. But you can download the official based MX-23 Linux and build it yourself if you want an cinnamon desktop environment.
This will be the one that I will replace Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon with. Although it missing some packages, it is still a very useful and stable Cinnamon Desktop Environment Debian 12 based distro. And this will be the one that I will come home to after a few experimental trials of some Linux distributions. A daily driver to be exact. Aside from the KDE Wayland ones of MX-23 Linux.
After all the best Linux distribution, is the one that I will use everyday and love using it each and everyday. Even in an old hardware.
