PAST BOARD EXAM PROBLEMS Structural Engineering & Construction Situation 67 The flooring of a warehouse is made up of DT Joists as shown. The joists are simply supported on a span of 7.5m. Give: A = 2x105 mm2 I = 1.88 x 109 mm4 The initial prestressed force is 745 kN located at 192 mm below the neutral axis. Loads: DL = 2.3 kPa, DL = 6.0 kPa
- Determine the tensile stress due to the initial prestress force. (33.18)
- Determine the maximum compressive stress at midspan of the beam due to the given loads and the prestress force based on the following conditions: Loss of prestress = 18% Beam unit weight is 24 kN/m3 (14.75)
- Determine the additional superimposed load that the DT can carry such that the resulting tensile stress at the bottom fiber is zero. Consider 18% of stress. (14.77)
