Bob answers some of the questions that we got in on the Panasonic Toughbook CF-53. The first question is, "Hi Bob I was just wondering if I need to recalibrate the battery after installing a new battery? How important is it to recalibrate the battery and is this something you need to do? Hey and by the way Bob thank you for all your videos." Panasonic offers a battery recalibration tool and normally we do not use it with new batteries unless there is some sort of issue with the battery. The next question we have is, "Thanks for the walkthrough. I just plan to buy this laptop even if I really don't need so much durability but because I like durable portable electronics. What about some suggestions about ram modules or SSD drives that will be best for this PC? Also, can you tell me about the revisions for this laptop?" The memory that comes on this unit is PCL3 12800. It is a DDR3 that comes with 8 GIG sticks so that you could max out your memory at 16 GIGs. With the SSD, we use the Samsung brand normally because of its reliability. The revisions of Panasonic Toughbooks come in different generations that are labeled as Mark(MK). So there would be an MK1, an MK2, an MK3, and so forth until they stop making that particular model. Typically they upgrade and move from one generation to the next by upgrading something like the CPU. They do this to keep some of the newest technology available in the units as long as they are making them. Moving on to the next question, "I've been using the CF series in the field for over eight years now! Yep! I love the CF-53 also one thing I can't find, is the part number for the built-in optional webcam. Can you help with that Bob?" The first thing about the webcam on the CF-53 is that it was only available to be installed on units with a touch screen. This is because the webcam plugs into the touchscreen board. The webcam is for sale from Panasonic but, you will need the serial number of the unit that actually has a webcam so that you can claim that you are just replacing it. Panasonic will not allow you to retrofit upgrades that were not originally sold with the model. The last question that we have for today is, "the most frustrating thing about the CF-53 is finding the proper drivers for windows 7. The most frustrating thing is finding drivers period for Panasonic Toughbooks." There will be a link below for the website which we get all of our drivers from.
