Public-Permissioned Blockchains for Property Exchange

This month we will be hosting Samuel Brooks, CTO at Block8, who will be taking us through a blockchain initiative by the South Australian Government.

If you have bought or sold a property recently, you may have heard the name PEXA (Property Exchange Australia). PEXA is a software company that manages the process of the transfer of title in property sales nationally, known in the industry as "electronic lodgement".

In 2019 the South Australian Government called upon academia and industry to submit responses to an RFI on how distributed ledger technology could be used to implement interoperability between Electronic Lodgement Network Operators (ELNO), in order to bring competition to the multi-billion-dollar market, currently dominated by PEXA.

Block8, together with EY submitted a response outlining a blockchain-based system to deliver against requirements of interoperability whilst highlighting the disadvantages of an API-base approach.
