SSL/TLS Handshake Explained #ssl #https

SSL/TLS Handshake Explained SSL/TLS encryption is great for security because it increases confidentiality and integrity of data communication.
The SSL/TLS handshake is a series of steps that allows two parties – typically a client and a server – to authenticate each other, agree on encryption standards, and establish a secure channel for transferring data.
Does TLS use symmetric or asymmetric encryption? TLS uses a mixture of symmetric and asymmetric encryption. First, it uses asymmetric encryption to establish a key, which is then used for symmetric encryption. TLS does not use asymmetric encryption for the entire process because symmetric encryption is much more efficient and once a secure key is established, the process is completely safe.
However, because attackers also use encryption to hide malicious payloads, effective SSL/TLS decryption is necessary for inspection tools such as IDS/IPS, next-gen-firewalls, secure web gateway (SWG), and others that need decrypted data to perform their inspections.
