The bladder is a muscular organ located in the lower abdomen of the body that stores urine until it is ready to be eliminated from the body. It is part of the urinary system, which also includes the kidneys, ureters, and urethra.
The bladder is made up of smooth muscle tissue and can expand to hold varying amounts of urine. When the bladder is empty, it is small and located behind the pubic bone. As urine accumulates, the bladder expands and moves upwards in the abdomen.
It is able to contract and release urine through the urethra when it is time to eliminate waste from the body. The process of urination is also known as micturition,
In this video, you will find bladder shape changes in urination via cystography.
Cystography is a medical imaging technique to examine the bladder and its surrounding structures. Its involves injecting contrast material into the bladder through a catheter in the urethra, X-ray, or other imaging modalities are used to take pictures of the bladder as it fills contrast materials.
