Nethack is the spiritiual successor to Rogue, the game that defined the roguelike and procedural dungeon crawl genres. You are an adventurer sent on a mission by your god to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor. Explore a procedural dungeon, kill and eat your enemies, die in stupid ways.

More than 35 years in development, it is impossible to fully describe the depth of gameplay Nethack offers. Fortunately, it is very easy for anyone to experience themselves. The game is free and runs on pretty much any functional PC.
