Why Elephants Break Down Trees #shorts
WildLife Explained
What is your first thought when looking at this elephant breaking down a tree, and right after that, scratching its buttocks with it? Hilarious right? As amusing as it appears, there is something more reasonable going on here.
Scientists have been trying to figure out why elephants knock down trees for years, and while there is no definitive explanation, there are a few theories.
According to one theory, elephants, particularly males, cause tree damage as a form of gymnastic training and confidence development, as well as to demonstrate dominance.
Other experts also suggest that, many times, the tree destruction comes because of another phenomenon called Redirected- Aggression.
For example, when an elephant is stopped by another individual from attacking a rival, it might go on to break down trees as an act of frustration and anger. Just like a teenager.
Another reason is of course for food and water. When droughts occur, elephants rely on baobab trees to fulfil they water needs by consuming the bark and accessing the stored water. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioBOz-nwZbQ
