Software job interviews are broken. There is far too much reliance on memorizing dumb algorithmic questions and not nearly enough emphasis put on testing actual software development skills. There is a reason for this problem, though. It is tough to test actual software development skills. This is why many companies use algorithms and data structures instead since it is very easy to test if the candidate got the question right or wrong.
