Why the Caps Lock key should have a notch in it

IBM's original keyboard design includes a gap between the A key and the raised portion of the Caps Lock key, to reduce the chance of accidentally hitting Caps Lock when reaching for the A key. Unfortunately some other companies have not followed this design, and use a full-width Caps Lock key.
