Archiving data in Amazon Glacier means while you'll store your data at extremely low cost (even compared to Amazon S3), you cannot immediately get your data back once you want. Data stored in Amazon Glacier takes several hours to recover, making it ideal for archiving.

There are three options to recover data with different access times and cost: accelerated, standard and large recoveries, as follows:

• Accelerated recoveries are generally available within 1 to five minutes.
• Standard recoveries are generally completed within 3-5 hours.
