Ok, so this is the first, and hopefully the start, of a new video series - Sound Design Uncovered (or SDU for short).
In this episode we will look at an often overlooked sound design plugin - the humble Noisegate. Often this plugin is used to clean-up noisy recordings, such as removing the bleed into a snare mic when recording a full drum kit and I demonstrate the fundamentals of this process. However, the focus of the tutorial is to show you some of the more creative ways to use this utilitarian plugin.
I’ll show you how to set-up a sidechain to allow audio and midi information to be used as a trigger to add rhythmical dynamics to bass sounds. We will also use a gate to post-process the sounds further with gated FX sends.
Enjoy!
Shout-out to Doug W for being my first Patreon supporter. Thank you Doug W!
note: if you had been wondering why I have not put out more videos recently, I can only apologise and just say that my old computer (2005 baby!) is struggling to cope with the CPU demands of video editing. I will be upgrading my equipment as soon as possible, however in the meantime I will continue to put out what I can. Hopefully you stick around because I have a lot of great content I want to make for you guys!
