Before we move on to another topic, I thought it was time to conclude our 555 Synth Punk journey, by creating a custom enclosure for it and then using it for a live performance.
Hopefully embracing some punk DIY sensibilities, I do a quick circuit mod, then throw together a rather crude enclosure using craft wood, an old chopping board, wooden dowels and a healthy dose of CA glue (super glue/crazy glue).
All this in preparation for an impromptu live performance using our little DIY synth friend. The 555 Synth Punk was fed into a delay FX pedal, then into a fuzz unit, before being sent into an 8 channel mixer. I then recorded the left and right output separately into the DAW (Logic Pro X).
Making use of a scratch drum track to play to, I later replaced/enhanced the drum sounds and edited the drum parts to bring more dynamics to the track. All the synth parts were played in a single, unedited take. These synths parts did get a little post-processing, however - mainly some EQ, dynamics, reverb and HalfTime in parallel to add some low end.
I think I'm all synth-punked out! So this marks the end of the 555 synth punk story... ...for the time being, anyway!
Thanks for stopping by!
