Mid-Side Multiband Mastering | How To Get Wide Punchy Mixes
Unknown Audio
In a first for the channel, we are going to take a look at a mastering technique today. This trick should help us to add stereo width and clarity to our mixes and give us much greater control of our low end!
The technique is basically to use multiband compression in a mid-side set-up. There are a lot of dedicated mastering plugins that will let you accomplish this, but I wanted to try and find a way to do it using only stock plugins. So this is the result!
There is a bit of routing required, but once set-up, it is fairly quick to apply the technique to any mix that you have bounced to audio. You could even set-up the routing and save it as a template for ease of use in the future.
I should point out that this was an experiment and like most experiments, it didn't go completely to plan. It took me three attempts to get a result I was happy with, but often these failures teach us valuable lessons in the process. So why not give it ago yourself?
As always, thanks for watching. Love, light and laughter! Unknown
