So, I decided to try my hand at guitar pedal building. What I don't know about electronics, is pretty much everything there is to know about electronics! To say this was outside of my skillset, is an understatement.
That being said, with the help of another YouTube video (link below), and some other online resources, I was able to make something that not only functions, but doesn't sound half bad; at least in a broken, distorted way!
Here I am using two LM386 amplifier modules, in series (i.e. the output of one passes into the input of the other). I am also using two LEDs after the amplifier modules acting as a clipping diode. Additionally, because there was a lot of noise, I included three simple RC Low Pass Filters in the circuit (see links below). A lot of different iterations and experimentation was required to get to something that sounded good and worked well.
