How I Make Assets For My Game
Tvtig
I am making an FPS game in Unity. I thought it would be cool to show you guys how I have been going about making my assets for my game. In this short video I will take you through the process of making a fence for my FPS game.
I make use of blender to model the object for the fence. The idea in blender is to create a high polygon count version of the model, which includes huge amounts of detail. In the case of my fence, these are the scratches and ware on the surface of each object. Once the high poly version has been completed, I model a low poly version by creating a shape that somewhat matches that of each object I want to model, then I use the shrink wrap modifier in blender, to match the shape of the high poly model. Once that is complete I mark some seems on the low poly version, unwrap it and export all the items.
I then import the objects into Substance Painter, where I bake the high poly detail onto the low poly mesh. After baking I get to painting, which involves adding a base layer, then an Ambient occlusion generator and a curvature generator. Once I'm happy with the colours I export the textures.
In Unity I import the textures and create a prefab and materials for the fence object, then manually place each fence where I want it to be in my scene.
