So, FreeFurAll 2022 Happened...

A little late to the party with this one, but my focus was diverted by Hypnotist Sappho and other dramas that cropped up a little more recently, on top of work and other projects to boot. These videos take a while to make, y’know? Was something I wanted to cover regardless, but yeah. Gotta say, I’m simultaneously surprised, impressed, and disgusted that FreeFurAll 2022 actually happened, no thanks in part to the rest of the furry fandom dog-piling it from the get-go. I’m conflicted in so far as the fact that as a convention, it had every right to happen? But, the people in attendance made that fact a difficult pill to swallow. Some among you took it much more seriously than others did and were wishing, hoping it would fail. Me? If the attendees that went wanted to make a statement, they could have made it the best experience in the world for them. The reality fell far short from such a lofty aspiration.

Headed by the infamous Peace Wolf, FreeFurAll was a throw-back to returning to the Fandoms roots in a classical sense. If by returning to the Fandoms roots translates to a fundamental lack of fun or activity’s, then they nailed that goal on the head. I’d say this came out more as a casual hangout for some of the more controversial members of the community than a full on convention experience, and the lack of attendance showed in some lackluster videos and photos of the dance floor and other areas throughout the convention space. The Con-space was big, but the attendance was small, so that only emphasized that fact. With a reputation of being a hive of scum and villainy comprised of Edgelords, Nazis, Fascists, transphobes, homophobes, racists, and all points in between, Furry Twitter just about had a field day. For as much of a powder keg as people were hoping for the convention to explode with disaster, it deflated like a dud – I don’t get why “conservative” furries can’t seem to have fun or know what fun is. The con looked like an absolute snooze fest.

In any case, FreeFurAll 2023 was announced, with JasonaFex as the guest of honor – an improvement over 2Gryphon, I think. Still doesn’t make much of a difference, though I am curious if attendance will improve by next year. I can only imagine the drama that will spill over social media.
