Why Sadhguru Is Wrong About Psychedelics
TripTips
Sadhguru is a very well respected Indian Yogi with almost 5 million YouTube subscribers! As one of the biggest spiritual teachers of our time, he has a lot of influence over his followers but he's not always right!
The topic of psychedelics is one Sadhguru isn't very experienced in, and this video shines light on his errors when speaking about it. When asked about psychedelics Sadhguru would be much better off just saying 'I don't know'.
Note: This isn't an attack and wasn't made to start any drama, this is an informative video where I share my perspective. Feel free to discuss your disagreements with me in the comments, there were some topics I simply didn't have time to talk about but if you have questions or objections I'll try my best to answer them!

Here's some common objections I didn't really cover in the video:
š "You can reach the same state/level of enlightenment without psychedelics so why take them?"
This is untrue, it is completely impossible in a human lifetime of meditation, yoga, or whichever spiritual practice you choose to reach something like a breakthrough 5-MeO-DMT state or a breakthrough Salvia state. Maybe (though still highly unlikely) it would be possible if we lived for a couple hundred/thousand more years, but not with the time we're given. Try 30mg of 5-MeO-DMT on 10g of mushrooms and throw in some Salvia and tell me you can reach that state when sober... You simply can't, as much as we all would love (including me!) for it to be possible :/
Another issue with this statement, even if it were true is, so what? I can also dig really far down with my bare hands but is there a problem with using a shovel? Even if you could reach a similar state through meditation, it would take you MUCH longer to do.
š "By doing it sober you can embody it in your day to day life more"
You can also do this with psychedelics but yes this statement is true. Then, why not both? It's not like taking a psychedelic is very time-consuming compared to the thousands of hours you would have to do of meditation. If the con of physically damaging your body (which for many psychedelics like mushrooms is not even the case) is lower than the benefit of temporary enlightenment and saving hundreds potentially thousands of hours in your life, what is the problem with it?
š "Psychedelics have costs/cons/risks"
Everything has costs/cons/risks, that doesn't stop you from doing stuff.
š "What Sadhguru described is beyond brain chemistry"
Correct, as is the psychedelic state. It's not that one is beyond brain chemistry and the other isn' ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go_O8d0ki74
