Testing A Viewers Arduino Uno & Motor Shields - Did He Burn Them Out?

One of my viewers was having an issue connecting his DCC++ base station to JMRI. His base station was working correctly and even sent me a video of what he was doing. I replied to him with instructions on what to look for and do for both the base station and JMRI.

His next email was shocking. I think I burned up my Arduino, I can't reprogram it! He decided to get another Arduino Uno and Motor Shield.

Again, he was having issues. JMRI would not recognize his loco. This is good, at least the base station is working correctly, he only needs to know how to find his locos decoder from the list in Decoder Pro. I gave him some pointers as to finding the correct decoder.

Wrong! His next email was just like another one he sent. He said he thinks he burned up his Uno & Motor Shield. What was he doing that he isn't telling me?????

He finally sent me 2 Uno's and 2 Motor Shields. Not the knock offs, but actually Arduino products.
