Modular Analog Synthesizer
The Tube Roaster
This is a large format modular analog synthesizer that I constructed. It took me about 10 months to build and I'm just now getting around to talking about it. It's got some interesting design quirks that are noteworthy. I have no previous experience with synthesizers so I decided to simply jump in the deep end and make something awesome. Almost everything in this thing is either analog or digital in the form of sequential logic chips. The only module that contains a microcontroller is the MIDI to CV module. That's only because I couldn't get it to work properly with sequential logic circuitry. The MIDI implementation of my MIDI controller was weird and wouldn't send proper triggers. 80% of the circuits were designed by Ray Wilson from his MFOS website. The rest were either designed by me, modified by me or made by somebody else. The modules are built to run on +/- 15V rails.
