Symphony No. 3 ‘Pastoral Symphony’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams
Vaughan Williams completed his 3rd symphony in 1922, with the premiere performance being given January the same year in London. The work is meant to evoke the rural fields of France during the first world war, where Vaughan Williams served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. While not the most famous of the Vaughan Williams symphonies, it has become popular as a work of remembrance for those who died during the conflict.
The symphony is comprised of four movements: I. Molto moderato 00:00 II. Lento moderato – Moderato maestoso 09:35 III. Moderato pesante 17:59 IV. Lento 24:00
