Piano Concerto No. 1 in E♭ major, S.124 by Franz Liszt
Based on the early sketch books of the composer, Liszt began work on this concerto in 1830 at the age of 19. The work was ostensibly finished in 1849, however Liszt would continue to make further adjustments to the concerto as late as 1853. The premiere performance of this concerto took place in February of 1855 in Weimar. Liszt was the soloist, and fellow composer and friend Hector Berlioz was conducting.
The work is comprised of four movements: I. Allegro maestoso 00:00 II. Quasi adagio 05:25 III. Allegretto vivace – Allegro animato 10:20 IV. Allegro marziale animato 14:23
