Haydn completed this symphony in 1795, making it the eleventh of the 12 ‘London’ symphonies he would compose. It is also the second last symphony from the composer. The symphony was premiered in March 1795 at the Kings Theatre in London to highly positive reviews. The additional title ‘Drumroll’ is based on the lengthy drumroll on the timpani at the beginning of the symphony.
The work is comprised of four movements: I. Adagio – Allegro con spirito 00:00 II. Andante più tosto allegretto 09:27 III. Menuetto 20:02 IV. Finale: Allegro con spirito 24:46
