Symphony No. 101 in D major (Hoboken 1/101) ‘The Clock’ by Joseph Haydn
Haydn completed this symphony in 1794, with the premiere performance being given in march the same year in the Hanover Square Rooms in London. The nickname ‘The Clock’ has been given to the work due to the ticking rhythm present in the second movement.
The symphony is comprised of four movements:
I. Adagio – Presto
II. Andante
III. Menuetto. Allegretto
IV. Finale. Vivace
