Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 by Johannes Brahms

Brahms completed this overture in 1880 in dedication to the University of Breslau, which would award Brahms an honorary doctorate in philosophy. The premiere performance was given in January of 1881 at the university. The work is meant to visualise a scene of students celebrating boisterously as would happen for graduation celebrations at the university.
