The Fermi-Dirac distribution

Jonathon Riddell here. In this video we explore the case when our system can exchange both energy and particles with a reservoir. This leads us to the grand canonical ensemble. We use this ensemble to derive a famous result in statistical mechanics, the Fermi-Dirac distribution. This is a central result and is vital to our understanding of metals.
