Apple Finally Ends Support For The iPad Air 2 | What Does The Future Hold? - Discussion

In this video I discuss the iPad Air 2 and its final discontinuation in terms of software updates. Apple just got done with the WWDC 2022 or World Wide Developers Conference 2022 and announced a bunch of new things such as the 2022 MacBook Air with the all new M2 chip, A new Apple Car Play, IOS 16, WatchOS 9 and of course, iPad OS 16. And according to their compatibility page, the iPad Air 2 is not on the list for iPadOS 16 as expected. The iPad Air 2 On iPad OS 16 won't be happening since after 8 years, 7 updates and 8 supported OS's, the iPad Air 2 has been discontinued from major software updates and the iPad Air 2 will not run iPadOS 16. The iPad Air 2 was initially launched with IOS 8.1 and then ran through IOS 9, IOS 10, IOS 11, IOS 12, iPadOS 13, iPadOS 14 and finally iPad OS 15. This makes the iPad Air 2 is the longest supported mobile device in mobile history, closely followed by the iPhone 6S.

Sadly however, everything must eventually come to and end. And the answer to will the iPad Air 2 Support iPad OS 16 is, no. However, the iPad Air 2 will still get 3 more years of security updates and that is for sure as with the iPhone 4S which was released in 2011, got a security update all the way in 2019. This is because Apple found out that even after years and years, people were still using the iPhone 4S in 2019 and this was even further solidified from the comments on my iPhone 4S in 2019 video saying that they still used it. So using this track record, considering the iPad Air 2 is even more popular and will be used for many many years to come, it will surely to get security updates for iPadOS 15. The reason the iPad Air 2 lasted soo long was because of its unique Apple A8X processor which is the only known Apple Triple Core processor. This extra core is what gave it the longevity it had.
