Traveling Smarthome - Setup of Amazon Fire Stick

1. Connect Power Adapter to the mini USB port on Amazon Fire stick a. If the TV you are going to use has a USB port, you may be able to use that instead of the power supply. If you get a message about insufficient power or a compatibility message, you will have to use the power supply
2. Plug Amazon Fire Stick into an available HDMI port on the TV
3. Select the HDMI port on the TV
4. Install the AAA batteries in the remote for Amazon Fire Stick
5. Pair the remote to the your Fire Stick
6. Connect the Fire Stick to the Internet
7. Register your Fire Stick
8. Your Fire Stick is now ready to use

When using your Amazon Fire Stick as the media client for a Plex Server, you want experience better results when using a wired connection. Amazon has available an adapter which inserts in between the Fire Stick and the Fire Stick power supply. This is also worth considering to using when you have a wired network connection available where you are staying as well.

If you are limited to a wireless connection only, I would suggest using a 5Ghz based SSID as it will give you a better chance of a good streaming experience. This will help keep your streaming activity off of the hotel network. Especially if you are using the Amazon Fire Stick at home and as well as when travelling, you can either use the same SSID when traveling or use a different SSID for when you travel (which would be my preference).
