How to Use your Smartphone and Android Auto as a Public Service Scanner

Using Android Auto and your SmartPhone as a Public Service Scanner can be informative and education. In an emergency, have a Public Service Scanner can help you get information first hand before it is "interpreted" by the media. In an everyday situation, it allows you the possibility of listen to the National Weather Service for up to the minute weather forecasts, Police and or Fire departments (which might help explain traffic delays on the way to/from work) and Amateur Radio operators (which partner with the National Weather Service, provide detailed weather information/storm damage usually not available directly from the NWS).

There are other scanner apps available for your SmartPhone but at the time this video was shot, Scanner Radio was the only one compatible with Android Auto. Also, be aware, in some parts of the country there may be laws in place that you are not allowed to listen to a "scanner" while in a vehicle. While what you are seeing here is technically not a scanner in the sense of what you an buy from Uniden or other scanner radio vendors, it might be a distinction without a difference to a police office.
