How to setup Windows 10 in VirtualBox for Your Smarthome

The trick to getting Windows 10 running in VirtualBox is to mount the Windows 10 ISO as a CD/DVD. You can dismount or disconnect the media once you start getting a prompt to press any key to boot from CD/DVD.

Once that windows 10 has finished installing, be sure to install the VirtualBox Guest extensions for best results with Windows 10 in VirtualBox.

1. Open VirtualBox
2. Click on New
3. Enter name for the VM
4. Click on Drop Down arrow beside Machine Folder to place the VM files where you want them
5. Verify Type says Microsoft Windows
6. Verify Version says Windows 10 (64 bit)
7. Click on Continue
8. Specify the amount of memory you want assigned to the VM
9. Click on Continue
10. When Hard Disk window appears, note the site of the VM hard disk
11. Click on Create
12. When the Hard Disk Type windows appears
13. Accept the default and click on Continue
14. When Storage on physical hard disk window appears accept the dynamically assigned option
15. Click on Continue
16. When the file size windows appears, adjust the size of the file if needed
17. Click on Create
18. Click on Settings
19. Click on Storage
20. Click on Empty CD icon
21. Click on CD icon on right of screen
22. Search for .ISO you are using to create the VM from
23. Click on OK
24. Click on Start and follow the prompts to install the OS to the VM
