How to Setup Linux Mint 19.1 in VirtualBox For your SmartHome
TechBytes with Ron Nutter
- Start VirtualBox
- Click New
- Enter name of VM being created i.e. Mint
- Set path/directory for VM files
- Set Type to Linux
- Set version to 2.6/3.x/4.x (64 bit)
- Click Continue
- Set amount of Ram i.e. 4096
- Click on Continue
- Click on Create
- Click on Continue at VDI screen
- Click on Continue at dynamically allocated screen
- Enter size of drive i.e. 25 GB
- Click on Create
- Click on Settings
- Click on Network
- Change Network 1 adapter to Bridged Adapter
- Click on Display
- Enable 2D and 3D acceleration
- Click on Start
- When pop-up window appears, select name of Mint ISO file
- Click on Start
- When Mint desktop appears, click on CD icon titled Install Linux Mint
- Select English and click on Continue
- Select keyboard layout and click on Continue
- Check box to install 3rd party software for graphic and hardware
- Click on Continue
- Click on Install Now
- Click on Continue
- Select timezone and click on Continue
- Enter name, username, password and click on Continue
- Click on Restart Now button when prompted
- Make sure that install ISO is no longer attached and press Enter key to continue
- Enter password for user and press enter
- Click on Virtualbox menu - Devices
- Click on Insert Guest Additions ISO
- Shortly, A mounted CD icon should appear on the desktop
- Click on Run when prompted
- Enter password for user when prompted
- Press Return when prompted to close install Windows for Guest Additions ISO
- Right click on Guest Additions ISO and click on Eject to dismount ISO
- Take a few minutes to do a base snapshot in case you need to fallback to where you started
