How to deal with a problem NIC in FreeNAS for your Smarthome

Imagine my surprise when I setup my FreeNAS using what I thought was a supported NIC based on the hardware requirements list. I found a USB C based ethernet NIC that got things running but had its own issues. Thanks to some folks on the FreeNAS forums, I found a list of Intel network cards that are known to work.
