THISPLAY | FUNCTION FOLLOWS perFORMer

FUNCTION FOLLOWS perFORMer is a work of Emanuel Andel and Sara de Santis, music by Nikos Kandarakis.

The interior architecture of the site is directly connected to the motion of the performer via a 3d tracking system. The environment as well as the motion of the dancer is captured and used to build the projections that turns the same structure into one big dispositive.

This open a dialogue between the mechanism and the human, the dependencies change up to a point where the performer not only controls the rhythm of the music but transforms from an object that has been shaped, to a designer in charge. Soon, the new world starts to generate it’s own behaviors based on the inconsistencies of the performer – limiting the freedom of the dancer and pushing it into a new form of rhythm, which is – in time – less and less influenced by its maker.
