Using a soldering iron to join PLA plastic - building a cool 3D pen gadget
chris randell
After trying countless different glues and ways to stick and join PLA, I gave the soldering iron a try and found that it works best for me. In this video I use the soldering iron to 'weld' various parts together using spare filament as a 'welding rod' . The join itself is ectremely strong and with a bit of practice you can increase your speed and accuracy. What I am building is a gadget for a XYZ Da Vinci pen, to improve ways to draw with it without shaky results. As this is the first part of the video, you will need to wait until part 2 to see it in action, its maiden voyage if you like. If its successful I will be uploading the files to thingiverse. If there is a 3D pen manufacturer who would like me to make this gadget for their model please just message me.
I hope you enjoyed this video and found it helpful. Please like share and subscribe and stay tuned for part 2.
