Ground State Electron Configuration
StudySession
The ground-state electron configuration tells us the lowest energy state that an atom can have. This tells us the unexcited state of the atom, which is the state it most wants to be in. Electron configurations tells us in which orbitals an atom, ion or molecule places it electrons. The ground state electron configuration is a special type of electron configuration in which a neutral unexcited atom places its electrons. In this video we talk about why we learn about the ground-state electron configuration, what it tells us about the compound we are studying and how we can find the electron configuration or any atom, ion or molecule that we need to.
