Degree of Polymerization Example | Polymer Engineering
StudySession
Let’s solve a degree of polymerization example. Briefly, let’s talk about what the degree of polymerization of a polymer is. The degree of polymerization is essentially just the average number of repeating units in a polymer, so the number of “monomers” connected together in a given polymer. To determine the degree of polymerization it is the number average molecular weight over the molecular weight of the repeating unit. Which should make sense right, we are trying to determine the amount of monomer units that our large polymer consists of so we weight if you will the polymer and divide that by the monomer molecular weight. Meaning our average polymer from this data set will be degree of polymerization number monomers long.
