Fr. Timothy Interview Part 3
Jeremy St.Martin
I am Rev Fr Timothy Mayamba Masaaba, a Priest of the Archdiocese of Tororo, UGANDA. I am a Pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Buchunya. A parish on the slopes of Mt Elgon, in Bududa District, Eastern Uganda. A remote area prone to long rainy seasons, that result in destruction of Infrastructure, roads, bridges, and mudslides that often leave families without homes, etc. Aparish stands as the hope for many in such circumstances and the priest becomes everything for the good of his people. My old Parish truck becomes the means of transport for many, the ambulance for expectant mothers, delivering mail, etc, etc, and yet it is in poor condition, with smooth tires, in need of engine overhaul, shock absorbers , brakes, wiring, etc.
The Parish has 32 village churches, taken care of by Catechists, who often are not trained. Most of these village churches are not permanent structures. In this temporal village chapels, services are often carried out under the tree and when rains come, we are scattered.
We would love to team up with friends to acquire a reliable truck, construct permanent village chapels and train our Catechists.
Thank you.
