Windows 11 Dark Mode and Dark Themes
In this short tutorial, I’ll show how to activate the Windows 11 dark mode. You can also set dark Contrast themes that are very similar to dark mode. They have a slightly different look and feel and they are better at implementing dark mode in more applications.

How to Activate Windows 11 Dark Mode
To do this, right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Personalise. In the Personalisation menu, you have quite a few options to customise your Windows 11 appearance. Dark mode is almost the same as in Windows 10.
There is still room for improvement, for instance, when you open a run window it has the light theme even if you have set dark mode.
To continue, click on Colours. Here you can set dark mode by changing the “choose your mode” setting from Light to dark.
After doing this, you can choose to set accent colours on the start and task bar. The same can be done for title bars and windows borders. You can play around with these settings until you find what you like.
Windows 11 Contrast Themes Additionally, you can click on contrast themes which should be at the bottom of the page under related settings.
The dark contrast themes are almost the same as normal dark mode. For instance, when you set the Aquatic theme you have pre-set accent colors. To select a theme, click on the dropdown arrow next to Contrast themes.
Select the theme that you want to set and click on apply.
The contrast theme, has the advantage that it also changes the color of the Run window, Microsoft Office applications and a few others. The downside is that the themes use a limited color palette in some of these applications.
The themes are slightly buggier compared to Windows 11 dark mode. They sometimes don’t show details like they should. For instance, I usually get this when I hover over the close button on folders or applications. This is definitely going to improve in the near future so nothing to worry about.
This concludes our tutorial on Windows 11 dark mode and dark themes. I'm inspired by creators as TechGumbo and Tech Insider.
