Welcome to this short Google Chrome dark mode tutorial. There are 2 easy ways to do this. The first one is by adjusting the browser itself and the second one is by adjusting settings in the Windows 10 OS.
When using the last method, you change these settings for all apps that have a dark mode available when using the first method you Force Google Chrome in dark mode regardless of any other settings.
We start by Closing all open Chrome windows. Next, we search for Google Chrome in the Windows search bar. Right-click on it and select Open file location.
This opens the location where your program shortcuts are set. Right-click on the shortcut and select “Properties”.
At the moment, you should have something similar to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe". After this line, we want to add the following text: --force-dark-mode. Do not forget to add the space in front of the – signs.
So, in total your new target line should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --force-dark-mode
Click on Ok to save the dark mode adjustment. This is all there is to it if you want to change the settings in Google Chrome only. You can now reopen the browser and dark mode should be active.
Of course, Windows 10 has its own color settings. While this method of forcing dark mode is easier it's also less flexible. When you set color settings for Google Chrome through this method you also set it for all other applications that have a dark mode available as well.
Start by clicking on the Windows search bar and search for Color Settings. This opens a new window. Personally, I prefer to set “Choose Your Colour” on custom. This distinction allows you two additional choices. You can keep the default Windows mode in light, but you can change it to dark as well.
The second option is the default app mode. When you change this to dark, you automatically change this for all applications that can handle this setting.
This concludes our how to set Google Chrome dark mode tutorial. I hope that this explains all the steps clearly. I'm inspired by content creators as TechGumbo and Technology for Teachers and Students.
