Method #1 Troubleshoot Sound Settings
We start with the first one. This is going to troubleshoot your audio device. Click on the Windows search bar and type in Sound Settings. Click on it. Below Master volume, you have the option to run a Windows 10 troubleshoot on your audio device and settings. If you have more than 1 audio device you need to select the one that you want to troubleshoot. Usually this is going to be Realtek device.
Once it is done, Windows 10 might have found a proper fix. It’s possible that you need to continue for a short bit in the troubleshooting menu. So in general it’s a good thing to go along with what the troubleshoot suggests. Hopefully, this was enough to fix your audio issue. If not, we have a few other methods to try.
Method #2 Sound Control Panel
With the second method, we stay in the sound settings menu. Click on Sound Control Panel on the right side of the settings menu.
This opens a new window, first, we want to check the communications tab. Sometimes, this is set to reduce the volume of others sounds by 80 or 50%. This can cause issues with your audio in general and be the source of the volume to low problem. Change this to “Do nothing” and click on apply.
Next, switch to the playback tab. Select speakers and click on properties. Here you want to make sure that the default format is set on the highest settings. Click on the dropdown arrow and change the setting.
On the right side, you have a test button that plays a few notes. You can use this to test the different settings. Check if this fixed your volume to low on Windows 10.
Method #3 Update Sound driver
In the next 2 methods, we are going to use the Device Manager. To open this, search for device manager in the Windows search bar.
Click on the dropdown arrow next to Sound, video, and game controllers. Here you want to select the relevant audio device. This can be a different device in your case. Right-click on it and select Update Driver.
Then, click on Search automatically for drivers. With this option, Windows 10 is going to check for other available drivers that might solve the problem.
Method #4 Change Driver
For the last method, we stay in Device Manager. Again, right-click on your audio device and select Update Driver. This time, we want to choose the second option, Browse my computer for drivers.
