Method #1 Task Manager - Graphics Card
In the first method, we check which graphics card we are using with the help of Windows Task Manager. Right-click on the Windows icon and select Task Manager.
When Task Manager opens, click on the Performance tab. Sometimes, you see that there is more than one graphics card installed. An integrated graphics card, and a second graphics card that is usually stronger than the first card.
This is often the case for laptops as it is a way to lower battery consumption when there is no need to use a high-end GPU.
When I select the NVIDIA card, you can see a few additional specs.
Dedicated GPU memory is exclusively for actions such as rendering in video games or editing videos. Your computer can’t use it for other actions.
The GPU memory or total available graphics memory is the total amount of memory that is available from your system and graphics card combined. You can use this memory for all sorts of actions.
Shared system memory is almost the same as the total available graphics memory. This is the big chunk of memory that comes from your system, which can be used for memory purposes.
I use the intel card for lightweight stuff like browsing websites. I use the NVIDIA card for video editing. As mentioned earlier, there is a difference in power consumption. The NVIDIA card uses a lot more power.
Method #2 Advanced Display Settings
Right-click on the Windows icon and select Settings. On the left side of the screen, select System, followed by clicking on Display. After that, scroll down until you reach Advanced display.
Click on Display adapter properties to continue. This opens a new window that shows you details of the graphics card.
Additionally, you can see the spec system video memory, which isn’t important. The value is 0 when your graphics card has dedicated video memory.
Method #3 Check Graphics Card in Device Manager
Next, I’ll show you how to check your graphics card in Windows Device Manager. In Device Manager, you can check your computer’s hardware. To do this, click on the windows search icon and type in Device Manager.
When it opens, click on the little arrow next to Display adapters. Here, you should see all of the installed cards as well.
