This time, I will show you how to check which graphics card you have in Windows 10. I’ll also shortly explain what each spec of the graphics card does. I’m going to show you two ways to do this. The first one is with a bit more detail while the second one is better when you have multiple cards as is the case for most modern laptops.
Select display setting and open your advanced display settings. Here we can already see the type of graphics card that we are using. However, you can see a bit more details if you click on “Display adaptor properties for display 1”.
So in my example, we are using an Intel card. The memory specs on the graphics card are somewhat important but not as important as you would expect. These are for the most part marketing stuff from the vendors, but I’ll explain shortly.
The total available graphics memory is the total amount of memory that is available from your system and graphics card combined. For instance, this can be used for stuff as video rendering. Since it comes from your main system, for the most part, it can be used for other actions as well.
Dedicated video memory is exclusively for actions as rendering in video games or editing videos so your computer can’t use it for other actions.
System video memory isn’t important. The value is 0 when your graphics card has dedicated video memory.
Shared system memory is almost the same as the total available graphics memory. This is the big chunk of memory that comes from your system, which can be used for memory purposes.
That’s it for our first method to check your graphics card in Windows 10. On to the second method. This one is a bit faster, but it doesn’t have all of the details as the previous method.
We start by searching for Device Manager in the Windows 10 search bar. Click on it. This opens the device manager, which has plenty of stuff to explore.
In our case, we are searching for which graphics card or cards our PC has, so we need to click on Display adaptors. As you can see, this shows the two different graphics cards that are available in this laptop.
This concludes our to the point tutorial on how to check graphics card in Windows 10. I'm inspired by content creators as TechGumbo and Technology for Teachers and Students.
