In this day in age of technology and baseball, it is very competitive in terms of training and getting the message out, in order for training centers to lock up clients. As a result of this, from time to time, the message will be twisted and overly misleading. Especially, amongst the hyper analytical terms and the gurus who claim to understand them. In reality, not everyone is a science based thinker. Most notably, baseball players.
The result. CONFUSION. Therefore, don’t be afraid to tell a coach...

“I DON'T UNDERSTAND!”

Unfortunately, there are many coaches out there who cannot relay their message into responsive terms for their players. Part of the problem, is that they want to use BIG WORDS or Scientific Terms to create a perception as experts. The reality is, that’s not coaching. Coaching is about getting results from players. That is done through putting in the time and effort. Adjustments and patience play big in mentorship.

One adjustment in coaching methods which proves beneficial is using cues with non body parts. When you are told to move a certain way with a certain body part, you are thinking more about said body part than the objective of the adjustment. For example, instead of saying rotate your belly button towards your target, use belt buckle. Instead of saying toes, say front spikes. It registers much faster by eliminating extra thoughts.

When you have a coach who tells you to do something which you cannot fully grasp, do not go along with it.
Tell him that you need his teachings explained in a way that is more digestible to you.

You are doing yourself a huge disservice when you say, “OK, Ya, Sure, I got it!” When you know that you really don’t. You may feel obligated to keep things moving. However, when you are in the jungle and facing a hitter 60’6” away, you will wish that you had spoke up for yourself. Never forget that you are constantly building the foundation for your success.

Communication is key in all aspects of life. It is also a 2 way street. You can’t rely on coaches and instructors to cater to you. Don’t be afraid to Let them know what you need to KEEP DOMINATING MY FRIEND!!!
