How to Strikeout AARON JUDGE #2MPM Ep. 56 from Slider Domination
Today, I am going to breakdown the at bats between Lance Lynn of the Texas Rangers vs Aaron Judge of the Yankees. September 4, 2019 at Yankee Stadium.
1st inning. Lynn has his way with Judge on 3 straight fastballs. Good morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night. 97, 96, 97 on the gun. The righty is not messing around with the big man.
2nd at bat after following a 1 out walk, Lynn comes right after Judge again. Fastball up and over the plate at 95. Judge swings right on through it.
96 middle in, up in the zone. Swung on through again.
0-2 97 away. Lynn was coming right at him here. He just overthrew it and missed wide. You vs ME Hardball.
1-2, same spot as the 0-1 pitch. Judge let the ball get deep, or he was late on it...that's your call pitchers. The rhetoric always differs. And he drives it the other way into the 3rd row for a home run which most likely would have been caught on every other field in the league. Don't believe me? Let Statcast prove it…..
The girl in the pink in the 1st row likes it
Even Judge knows he got a cheapie. Jeter used to have the same swing on that pitch and he would hit a flare over the 2B’s head about 2000 times. Judge is a bit stronger. Nonetheless, this got the Yankees on the board with 2-0 lead
In the 4th inning, Lynn has already allowed a solo homer in this frame, to increase the deficit to 3 runs. After 2 more base hits and a 2 out walk, the bases are now loaded for Judge in the 3rd at bat. A mistake pitch or a cheap homerun could blow this game wide open in the middle innings. Lance Lynn, as a veteran pitcher, who was with the Yankees last year for a bit and knows this ballpark, understands that he can't pitch with that thought in his head. It is all about executing pitches.
As Judge saw 7 straight heaters in his first 2 at bats, Lynn has to make the adjustment.
1st pitch is a cutter at 90. Up in the zone for a ball. I think it fooled the umpire.
Next pitch, fastball down at 96. Cowboy Joe West says he went. Already, Lynn has changed speeds and eye levels.
1-1, fastball back up at the top of the zone at 96. And Judge can't catch up. You can see how Lance is starting to pick him apart here. 1-2. Cutter away at 91. Got him swinging again. Up and in, Down and away. Gets hitters out at every level.
Lynn ended the threat and kept the game where it is.
