Understanding This can make or break a pitcher. Pitching to the situation of the game is a vital part of the craft. STUFF is only a part of the total package.

With that said, here are A few things to consider when attacking the fire head on! With ice water in your veins, of course!

Now is the time to slow down game and focus on locating one pitch at a time. Naturally, with full conviction! Stay in the moment. You can't strike out the side on 1 pitch. You have to be strategic when engorged in this dynamic.

The focus is on minimizing the damage. Depending on the situation, If you can survive this inning only allowing a run or 2, you did the job. Coaches understand what the success rates are in this situation. Once the ball leaves your hand, the outcome is out of your control. The biggest thing that you can command, is not giving into the hitters.

Don’t concern yourself with pitch counts. That is out the window right now! If it takes 30 pitches to get out of the mess unscathed, so be it. When this arrives, don’t get ahead of yourself. Again, stay in the moment. It’s not about how many innings you can go. It’s about keeping the game where it is. A big crooked number in the 3rd may be the ball game. If you got through the bases loaded jam here without a blemish, and you only went 5, don’t hang your head upon it. Everyone will appreciate your work. Hand the ball over to the next man up.

Lastly, you have to bring a mindset, that the ball does not leave the infield. So, that is how you will make your pitches. The mind will tell the body how to do so accordingly.
