Ears Grown From Apples? The Promise of Plants for Engineering Human Tissue
Mr. Singularity
š Would you want to hear the crisp' crunch' of an apple with an ear also made from an apple? š
š Stem cells, growth factors, and scaffolding materials are both difficult and costly to acquire. Growing the human ear out of apples might seem irrational. The research is a success. It could be real. . Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, created a new way to grow human cells.
The team used an apple-shaped scaffold. They hope to use it in developing human organs for cancer patients' treatment. Pelling's team is expanding its work to three major fields of tissue engineering: soft tissue cartilage, bone, spinal cord, and nerve repair. They have created a scaffold for three different types of ear, the pointed Spock-shaped one, and the waved one.
Thanks and Enjoy š„ š„
