💠 In 2019, only 864,000 babies were born in Japan, a 5.9% decline from the previous year. Japan still has the largest percentage of people over 65 of any country in the world. The nation is divided into 47 prefectures, and about 25 of them now offer some kind of matchmaking service to citizens. Several dating applications are now using AI to "connect people" and "improve the community" in Japan. The Japanese government is worried, to put it mildly, and with good reason -- the economy of the nation and the well-being of its citizens are at stake.

Online dating is now the number one way couples meet in the U.S. Japan's population is projected to decline from 127 million in 2015 to 88 million by 2065. US population projected to rise by 81 million over a comparable span of time, considering fertility rates are at their own record lows.
