What kind of animal is that?

I have heard a lot of weird stuff in the woods here both at night and in the day but I don't think I have ever heard this sound before. Of course it had to be investigated and well I got Jacks attention so he follows me around meowing at me.

Is this some kind of night bird or just a woodland creature sleeping? This sure is a break from all the heavy foot steps and tree knocks I have been hearing all Summer. I am intrigued!
