Make your strings and pads come alive in Logic Pro X with sidechaining
Sound production and advice.
Sidechaining is a handy technique that goes way beyond this quick tutorial. Here we'll use a kick drum to trigger a compressor on a string pad to create the classic EDM pumping and breathing effect.
TL;DR Put a compressor on the strings, In Logic use the Vintage VCA, Threshold -30, Ratio between 3:1and 7:1 Make Up Gain none unless required (use your ears for volume), Auto Gain OFF, Knee leave alone, Attack 0ms, Release between 30 and 60, Auto Release Off, Side Chain Input either your Kick Drum or a silent Side Chain input used purely to trigger the compressor and not heard in the track.
As always these are starting points and these settings will change from track to track but will get you in the ballpark.
